    ABOUT THE MGI FORUM

This resource has been developed as an online compendium of news and information on activities and issues related to the Materials Genome Initiative for Global Competitiveness, announced by President Barack Obama in June 2011 as a critical, enabling element of the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership.

It represents the combined, cooperative effort of the spectrum of materials science and engineering professional societies representing the constituencies that will need to be engaged to ensure the Material Genome Initiative’s success—researchers, experimentalists, engineers, and educators—working within national laboratories, universities, and industry. The MGI Forum is a means of facilitating communication among these societies on Materials Genome Initiative Topics.

The American Ceramic Society is an international professional society for materials scientists and engineers developing advanced ceramic materials, processes and applications. As the leading source of information dedicated to ceramic and glass technologies, the Society's activities include journals, events, magazines, news blogs and education. ACerS serves more than 9,500 members and students from more than 60 countries. The Society is headquartered in Westerville, Ohio.
University Materials Council

The University Materials Council (UMC) is composed of the Department Heads, Chairpersons, and Directors of academic programs in Materials Science and Engineering in the United States and Canada. More than 100 university departments and programs are represented by the UMC and, together, we are responsible for all materials science and engineering education in the United States at the Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral levels. The primary goals of the UMC are to help define and influence new directions for the field, to promote the field, to strengthen the educational component of the field, and to foster improvements in numbers and quality of students in the field.
Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration

SME is a professional society (nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation) whose nearly 15,000 members represent all professionals serving the minerals industry in more than 85 countries. SME members are engineers, geologists, metallurgists, educators, students and researchers. SME advances the worldwide minerals community through information exchange and professional development.
American Institute of Chemical Engineers

AIChE is the global professional community for 45,000 chemical engineers in 93 countries. AIChE provides members with technical resources as well as tools to manage their careers and lives.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers

ASME is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 120,000 members in over 150 countries worldwide.
The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering

The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE®), an international professional member society, provides information on new materials and processing technology either via technical forums, journal publications, or books in which professionals in this field can exchange ideas and air their views. As the only technical society encompassing all fields of endeavor in materials and processes, SAMPE provides a unique and valuable forum for scientists, engineers, and academicians.
The American Society of Civil Engineers

Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 140,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide and is America's oldest national engineering society.
NACE International

NACE International is the global voice of the corrosion control and prevention industry. NACE seeks to educate corrosion professionals in all relevant industries through training and certification, establish industry-wide communication through membership events and activities, promote research of new technology through trade standards and publications, advocate on behalf of corrosion experts among public and private sectors.
